Community Engagement Work

As part of our community engagement strategy for the Dane County Food Action Plan, we have assembled a team of navigators who are doing outreach at community events all over the county. They've already been to a dozen events and will be out and about all summer! We wanted to give Mya Whitson, our Navigator Coordinator, a chance to introduce herself here and share more about their work.

Hi, I am Mya Whitson. I began my role as a Dane County Food Action Plan Coordinator in April 2025. I lead efforts to bring communities across the county together around food justice and access. My work focuses on deep community engagement—building connections between people, neighborhoods, and the vital resources they need to thrive. I help guide and support a team of Food Action Plan Navigators, each rooted in diverse communities throughout Dane County. Their lived experience and leadership are essential to shaping a food system that reflects the real needs and strengths of the people it serves. Together, we’re creating space for collaboration, conversation, and collective action to ensure everyone in Dane County has access to healthy, culturally-meaningful food.
