Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees has approved a proposal to integrate the School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) into the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science (SES). SSE will become a department within SES starting from the 2024-2025 academic year and all SSE programs, faculty, staff and students will join SES as part of this integration.
Stevens remains committed to systems education and research. By placing SSE’s three programs — engineering management, software engineering and systems engineering — under the umbrella of SES, Stevens will align itself with our peer institutions, which offer their systems programs through their engineering schools. This integration will strengthen our effort to recruit students and faculty and enhance the university’s reputation by improving the visibility of our systems engineering programs to all prospective students seeking engineering opportunities.
This new administrative structure will also enable the systems engineering programs to draw upon the financial and administrative resources of SES and will provide opportunities for faculty and students to build connections, mentorship and collaborations across SES departments and disciplines.
Leadership from both SES and SSE will work on the new department structure this semester and will share detailed information over the next few months as they prepare for the 2024-2025 academic year.
I would like to thank everyone involved in developing this plan. I would especially like to thank Dr. Anthony Barrese, who has served as interim dean of SSE since mid-2021 and has been an extremely capable and effective leader for the school.
