Sacramento State earlier this month launched the Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) Center, offering a welcoming space for students who identify culturally with a region that represents more than two dozen countries including Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
The center, which will provide cultural events and academic services, is part of the University's ongoing efforts to support students from underrepresented backgrounds.
"For many students of color, it can be very easy to feel like you are a guest in someone's house," said University President Luke Wood. "We want students to see themselves when they walk on this campus."
