Orange County Commissioners Approve Bridge Funding for Residents Displaced by Tropical Storm Chantal |

During its August 26 meeting, the Orange County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to transfer $20,000 from the county’s Social Justice Reserve to the Department of Social Services (DSS). These funds will be used to support residents displaced because of Tropical Storm Chantal to extend temporary housing or to establish new permanent housing.

The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) held its 118th Annual Conference August 21-23 in Pitt County. This year’s theme was “Cultivate: Inspire County Growth.” Orange County was well represented throughout the event. Orange County Health Director Quintana Stewart was recognized through the Heroic Hands initiative, which celebrates public servants who go above and beyond in service to their communities.

Tropical Storm Chantal Recovery Resources |
Through Sept. 12, 2025, businesses and residents can get help applying for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Carrboro and Burlington.
Online applications will be accepted until September 23, 2025, for physical damage and April 27, 2026, for economic injury at lending.sba.gov.
To be eligible for State Individual Assistance, applicants must visit one of the disaster recovery centers that have been set up in impacted communities through September 12.

Apply to Provide Feedback on Tax Assessment Process |
Orange County is establishing a Tax Assessment Work Group to review and evaluate the policies, processes, and procedures used by the Orange County Tax Office to assess property values. The Work Group will also examine how the Tax Office communicates with the public about assessments.
The county is currently soliciting applications from residents to fill four community representative positions—two from District 1 and two from District 2. Interested residents can apply at www.orangecountync.gov/apply before September 30, 2025. The Board of Commissioners will appoint the selected representatives during its October 7 meeting.
