Homeless World Cup at Sac State is a chance to 'inspire global change'
Hundreds of soccer players from around the world are at Hornet Stadium this week to participate in the Homeless World Cup street soccer tournament, an event meant to connect people with those who have experienced homelessness and cast the issue of housing insecurity in a different light.
This year's event is the first time the tournament has been held in the United States, and the first on a university campus. Sac State will also host a symposium on homelessness on July 12.
“The Homeless World Cup is meant to inspire global change,” said Sac State President Robert S. Nelsen, who will retire at the end of the week. “I am incredibly proud that it will be my final event as Sac State’s president.”
