CELEBRATE the New Year with Out and Proudly NESCAC on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. BiGLATA, in collaboration with NESCAC school partners, invites their LGBTQ+ alumni community to join them in NYC, Boston, D.C., and San Francisco.

Expanding Programs

Beginning in the fall 2023 semester, Williams will offer a major in Africana studies and a concentration in Asian American studies. The faculty voted earlier this month to approve two proposals that led to the changes.

The fall 2022 issue of Williams Magazine is due to arrive in mailboxes later this month. Stories include alumni weighing in on the U.S. Supreme Court and the history of Title IX, setting faculty and student research on the geology of Ireland’s coast to music, a look at Williams’ work to recruit and serve student veterans, an update on sustainability efforts, and a rare birchbark manuscript recently added to archives’ collections. Get a sneak peek online!

In Memoriam

On Nov. 20, the college said goodbye to the Field Memorial Professor of Astronomy and Director of the Hopkins Observatory Jay Pasachoff, a fixture in the Williams community for more than 50 years. An expert on solar eclipses, Pasachoff has been memorialized in an array of media, including The New York Times, on Astronomy.com and—in an interview with Assistant Professor of Astronomy Anne Jaskot ’08—on WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
