The UTA men’s tennis team secured its second consecutive championship in the Western Athletics Conference Tournament, with its 4-3 victory over Grand Canyon University. The Mavericks will face their first round opponent in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament on Friday, May 3 in the NCAA Regionals. Visit utamavs.com for more information.

Victims’ Rights Awareness Walk
|
In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, UTA Police Department’s Crime Victim Services team will be leading a Victims’ Rights Awareness Walk today, Monday, April 22, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The group will follow the story of a domestic violence victim to learn what options and services are available to victims in the UTA community. Participants will have the opportunity to collect stamps from booths and be entered in drawings for prizes! The walk will begin and end at Brazos Park.

Department of Modern Languages Open House
|
Attend an open house for the Department of Modern Languages (MODL) on Wednesday, April 24, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. in Trimble Hall to explore language courses and discover career avenues linked to language and culture. You can also learn more about MODL’s new minor in American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Studies. While there are universities in North Texas that offer deaf education, ASL interpreting, and linguistics programs, UTA's new minor is the first of its kind in the greater DFW area.

CreateCollab, a collaboration between UTA Associate Professor of communication Erika Pribanic-Smith and the Arlington Museum of Art, is a rich repository of digital storytelling generated entirely by Maverick students. Pribanic-Smith said that CreateCollab broadens students’ perspectives and engages them with what Arlington and surrounding communities have to offer.

UTA’s first RISE 100 hire
|
UTA made its first hire under the Recruiting Innovative Scholars for Excellence initiative, or RISE 100, bringing to campus a renowned expert in vehicle autonomy who also is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Hongtei Eric Tseng will join the University as a distinguished university professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) has awarded the Academic Success Center recertification as a Level III certified tutor training program. CRLA is an acclaimed, internationally recognized organization supporting higher education programs. | Recycle your eclipse glasses
|
You can turn in undamaged eclipse glasses for recycling or reuse at the information desks at the University Center and The Commons. The University will send the glasses to nonprofit groups for future distribution and use.

UTA Wireless Network security enforcement
|
The Office of Information Technology is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to UTA wireless campus networks. This work is part of the Network Access Control project. Personal devices and home networks will not be affected. Enforcement will be conducted over two dates in April, as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.
