The Mesoamerica Region is comprised of many mainland and island nations, speaking Spanish, English, Dutch, and French, as well as Creole, which is spoken in Haiti. The Church of the Nazarene established work in countries like Cuba and Mexico (1902 and 1903 respectively) as the earliest missions fields across the region. New works have continued to emerge from the early 1930s, throughout the 1970’s, and to the present. It is a tapestry of diverse and beautiful traditions and people groups. There is a passionate desire to see the Church of the Nazarene and the message of Scriptural Holiness grow and thrive here. The story that follows exemplifies the creative and energetic ways used to impact the people groups of Mesoamerica for Christ.

40 DAYS OF PRAYER PRIOR TO PENTECOST SUNDAY
IN THE MESOAMERICA REGION
Since 2004, NMI on the Mesoamerica Region has taken the responsibility of leading Nazarenes in 40 Days of Prayer prior to Pentecost Sunday. Over these 40 days, districts gather to pray and focus on topics that will help fulfill God’s mission.
In 2024, 40 devotionals and prayers focused on the regional vision of Making Christlike Disciples, which were: What is Our Mission?; Receiving the Mission; Fulfilling the Mission in Urban Areas; Arranging Opportunities for the Children in the Mission; and concluded with the theme, Young People Fulfilling the Mission, Impacting their Generation.
Various approaches were taken across the region, but here are a few that stand out:
Nazarenes of the Windward Islands District, which includes the islands of St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and Grenada, participated in a Prayer Walk, carrying banners in the main streets of each island.

In St. Vincent, participants walked through communities from Rillan Hill to Penniston. In St. Lucia, they walked and prayed through the community of Gros Islet, where evangelistic campaigns are being conducted in that same community. And, in Grenada, prayer walks were held simultaneously in Fontenoy, Victoria, and Telescope communities. Persons in Telescope, Grenada, experienced healing after they were prayed for, and 15 new members have been added to the church as a result of the prayer walk.
Add to these island nations several districts in Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, and this 40 Days of Prayer initiative impacted a large portion of the Mesoamerica Region.
Over 1,325 people gathered simultaneously for worship and prayer in two zones of the South Pacific District of Mexico.

The Church of the Nazarene of Chajchucub, Coban, in the Guatemala Verapaz del Norte District brought offerings for missions that day as part of their gathering for 40 Days of Prayer.
The Central District of Costa Rica had a united service with all the churches in that district, concluding seven weeks of preaching the Word of God. Many testimonies of victory were shared by children, young people, and adults.

“God moved us to pray, fast and give to missions, but especially united us to ask for a revival in every Nazarene in the Mesoamerica Region. To God be the glory!” said Any Crocker-Diaz, Mesoamerica NMI regional coordinator.
