The Jewish High Holidays begin next week and include Rosh Hashanah 9/22-24 and Yom Kippur 10/1-2. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and recalls the creation of the world in the Jewish tradition. It is observed by fasting, repentance or "return", and atonement.
There are a number of ways to observe the Jewish High Holidays at Emory. Please see below for some of the upcoming programming and check our website for updates. For questions, please contact Emory Jewish Chaplain Rabbi Jordan Braunig at jordan.braunig@emory.edu.

And Global Ismaili CIVIC Day calls Ismaili Muslims to serve their communities worldwide through volunteerism. Together, communities of all faiths are invited to act upon a shared ethic of environmental stewardship and care for our Common Home. All living creatures deserve clean water. Register here. Arts of Attention: Listening to Carnatic Music
Friday, September 26, doors open at 6:30 pm, Performing Arts Studio
What goes on in your mind when you listen to the south Indian artform of Carnatic Music, whether as a seasoned listener or a novice? How does your attention move among the various elements involved—the drone, melody, words, rhythm, private daydream? What experiences could a different style of attention unlock? This event begins with an interactive exploration of such questions. It concludes with a live performance of Carnatic Music, by Shiv Subramaniam (vocal), Sruti Sarathy (violin), and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (mridangam, a two-headed south Indian drum).  The performance is in conjunction with Dr. Subramaniam's first-year seminar, Arts of Attention, and is organized by Asian Arts at Emory and Telugu Studies at Emory.
