SoCal Extreme Heat Research Hub

Fall 2024 Newsletter

Happy November and welcome to another edition of the SoCal Heat Hub newsletter!

Summer heat waves have come and gone, and we are now diving head first into Santa Ana wind season, which can bring unseasonal heat as well as elevated wildfire risk. It's therefore important to remain vigilant and pay attention to forecasts even as we enter the fall and winter here in Southern California.

This quarter's newsletter features exciting research, education, and outreach updates, several news articles highlighting Heat Hub work, as well as the final deep dive blog post by College Corps fellow Nicole, who worked with the Hub over the past year on science communication and outreach. Be sure to also check out the Upcoming Events section of the newsletter for information about the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative's upcoming annual climate recap.

Uneven Ground: The Complexities of Urban Greening and Equitable Access

In her final blog post for the Heat Hub, College Corps fellow Nicole Fassina investigated the topic of urban greening, diving deep into how green space mitigates climate change and heat, how it can affect human health, and what's being done on a local stage in San Diego on the topic of urban greening. Check it out on the Heat Hub blog.
