As we embark on the start of our winter semester, the energy and enthusiasm your sons and daughters have brought to campus is creating a warm and positive atmosphere (which is appreciated given the wintry weather we’ve experienced!). Our classrooms, labs and learning centers are abuzz with their renewed sense of purpose and eagerness to continue the journey of growth, learning and collaboration that lies ahead.

Our faculty is building off the successes of the fall semester to inspire a passion for knowledge and critical thinking in our learners, all while helping them develop the skills they need to take their place as leaders in their chosen professions after graduation.

I and other members of our university leadership team remain focused on ensuring a safe and enriching environment for your loved ones. From our campus setting to our support services, we continue to create an atmosphere that nurtures both intellectual and personal development.

I want to thank you for trusting us with the education and well-being of your students. We take this responsibility very seriously, and I am always eager to hear from you on how we are doing and what we can do better.  Be on the lookout for a survey that you’ll receive soon, where you can share your thoughts on the best ways for us to remain engaged and aligned for your students.

New Year = New Outlook on Mental Health

Professionals discussing mental health in the new year

The new year is the perfect time to focus on mental health. If you suspect your student’s mental health is struggling, encourage them to reach out to the University Counseling Center. Information about services, self-help tools, online screening tools, peer support, and other resources can be found on the Counseling Center website.

Commit to a happier, healthier year.

Student Employment at Laker Food Co.

Is your Laker looking for a student job this semester? Laker Food Co. is hiring for many positions right now! They will work around your student’s classes and extracurricular schedule. In addition to an hourly wage, your Laker will earn a meal for every four hours worked.

Also, be sure to follow @gvsufood on social media. If weather conditions force classes to go remote, restaurant hours may change, and those hours will be posted on social media. Social media posts will also remind students to use their dining dollars. Any extra Dining Dollars MUST be spent at the end of Winter Semester.

Financial Aid

2024-2025 FAFSA and Scholarship Opportunities Now Open

The winter semester is now in full swing! Students should have paid their bill or worked with financial aid on a deferment plan by logging onto myBanner. For questions about e-bills or more payment information, encourage your student to reach out to Student Accounts.

Looking ahead to next year’s tuition? Your student's FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year is now open. You can use the IRS data retrieval tool to pull 2022 tax information and make the process of filing the FAFSA even easier.

Another great way of receiving aid is applying for scholarships. Through Grand Valley’s myScholarships portal, there are over 500 scholarship opportunities for the 2024-2025 school year to help your student maximize financial aid in the next academic year.
