We're Talking Stories

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
– Socrates

“You think you know everything, I got news for you kid, you don’t!”
– Kent Baker

While you may be familiar with the work of Greek philosopher Socrates, the Father of Western Philosophy, chances are, you have never heard of Kent Baker. A longtime news director at KHON2, Baker went on to become the station’s general manager and vice president. During his 22-year career at Channel 2, Baker built a news team, led by anchorman Joe Moore, that dominated the ratings for decades.

Baker was also my first boss. He believed in me when I didn’t and I am forever grateful for his encouragement, trust and wisdom.

KB, as we all called him, was a man of many wise words. Some of those choice words are not protected by the First Amendment and prohibited on cable, satellite and broadcast TV and radio, but I always appreciated his candidness.

It was early in my career when he hammered home an important message I needed to hear, “You think you know everything. I got news for you kid, you don’t!”

I have never forgotten that and still replay it in mind every time I need a gut check (which is quite often). Truth is, we don’t know everything, and when we think we do, we realize we don’t know much. We should never stop learning. Which brings me to this ask.

At PBS Hawaiʻi, as we strive to be your trusted source of information, inspiration and connection in our community, your voice matters now more than ever.

Surveying people we serve is crucial for several reasons. First and foremost, your direct feedback helps us understand what resonates with you. By listening to your perspectives, we can deliver content that reflects the interests and values of our audiences. The information we receive from you will guide future programming decisions and enhance our overall quality, reach and impact.

Additionally, surveys help identify shifts in trends and determine how people access their content. This information provides metrics that enable us to adapt and stay relevant in the ever-evolving multi-media landscape.

Finally, your voluntary participation in this survey fosters a sense of partnership. PBS Hawaiʻi is a community resource. We value your insights and believe your voices can empower us to build a stronger, more connected Hawaiʻi.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out our short survey. We will analyze the results and use the information as a valuable tool to align the content we create and produce with your expectations and preferences.

We don’t know everything, but we are committed to learn and grow, and ultimately, serve you with the highest level of quality and integrity. Your input and feedback are invaluable in that journey.

Because of you, we can…

With respect and aloha,

Ron Mizutani
President and CEO
