I write today to share changes that I have made to the organization of the Senior Leadership Team. The purpose of these changes is to restructure some of the larger divisions within the University, to identify and elevate talent within the organization, and to strengthen collaboration and communication between divisions.
I offer my sincere gratitude to Dr. Meredith Bond for her service as our Vice President for Research and Innovation and her total 13 years at CSU. Meredith will be starting a well-deserved retirement later this summer. Thanks are also due to P. Kelly Tompkins, who joined us as our Interim Vice President of Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer earlier this summer. Kelly’s interim role will come to a close in September, but we will continue to benefit from his tremendous knowledge and love for his alma mater throughout the coming year as he serves in a limited role as Special Advisor for Business Affairs.
As previously announced, Dr. Randy Deike will join us as our new Vice President of Enrollment Management in early September, pending ratification by the Board of Trustees at their next meeting. In addition, I am welcoming Nicole Addington and Dr. Wesam Helou to the Senior Leadership Team. Nicole has been our Associate Vice President and Controller for the past three years and will now serve as our Chief Financial Officer. She brings more than 20 years of higher education finance experience to this role. Wesam will continue in his role as Chief Information Officer but will now report directly to me as president. This position is critical as we embark on a comprehensive review and update of our technological systems campuswide. I am so glad that these new senior leaders will bring their insight, expertise and creativity to our team.
The Senior Leadership Team will now also include a representative from among our college deans, who will join us for a one-year term. The addition of a dean to the Senior Leadership Team provides the opportunity for all strategic decisions to be informed by the critically important collegiate perspective. Beginning this fall, Dr. Stephanie Brooks from the College of Health will serve as the inaugural deans’ representative for the 2024-25 academic year.
With these departures and additions, the Senior Leadership Team will consist of:

These structural changes to the leadership team also include a shift in reporting lines for several offices and departments, many of which were formerly within the Division of Business Affairs. To see the full detail of this new structure, I encourage you to view the updated organizational charts available on our website.
As I mentioned, one goal of this new leadership structure is to increase alignment, collaboration and communication between divisions, particularly those closely related in responsibility and scope. Another priority is to more intentionally include key faculty and staff members in critical discussions that relate closely to their areas of responsibility. To that end, I will be forming Senior Leadership Groups organized into five areas:
|
- Academics and Student Success
- External Relations
- Finance, Budget and HR
- Technology Transformation
- Capital Planning and Strategy
|
|
|
Each group will have a designated convenor or co-convenors, who will lead these groups in discussions of core priorities and how we can best align our work in service to the campus and our core mission.
With this restructured Senior Leadership Team, I feel confident about the future of our University as we continue to reduce expenses and make strategic investments. In addition, as we begin envisioning CSU through 2030, this team will play a significant role in both designing and enacting our next strategic plan.
This new structure will formally be in place early this fall. If you have questions about this new structure and how your office or department may be impacted, I encourage you to reach out to your supervisor, any member of the Senior Leadership Team or myself.
As always, thank you for all you do to advance our mission and support the success of our students. I’m looking forward to a terrific academic year ahead!
