Dear Families,
I hope that you are having a nice summer so far.
We are preparing to send out fall sports registration information. Ahead of that communication, we wanted to let you know about a few changes to the Logan Sports Program beginning this fall. These updates were made after conducting an analysis of the athletic program costs over the course of the 22/23 school year, in consultation with Shae and the business office.
Participation Age Limit Change
This fall, we will be updating the age limit to participate in Logan sports to Upper IS and AS for
all sports offered. We made this change to provide consistency across sports, align with the middle school age cut-off of the other schools we compete with in ACIS, and for the physical safety and wellness of our students. The teams we play are “middle school aged,” most players being in 6th-8th grade.
Registration Fee Increase
The cost to participate in a Logan sport has been $50 for the whole season for more than 10 years. This fall the fee will increase to $100 per sport.
The fee increase is for two reasons. First, these fees will be allocated to fair market compensation for our coaches and referees; we want to retain our wonderful coaches and referees and compensate everyone fairly, especially given the increasing cost of living in Denver. The second reason is to keep up with rising costs of equipment/replacements, travel, insurance, and event entry fees.
Replacement Fee for Lost Jerseys
This year, we are going to start charging fees for unreturned or lost jerseys. We reuse our jerseys across sports and across years, so it is important that we are not unnecessarily purchasing new jerseys. We also want to ensure that our sports program is financially sustainable. The fee for an unreturned jersey will be $35 and unreturned shorts will be $20. (If you still have jerseys or shorts at home, please send them back in.)
The goal of our sports program at Logan is to provide a fun and inclusive space for kids to challenge themselves, grow in their physical capabilities, and experience the joy of playing as a team. We want every team member to feel there is a place for them on the team, regardless of their identity or experience. We are also striving to create equal opportunity for all Logan students, a goal which prompted adding a Boy’s Soccer team to the fall program for the 23/24 school year.
Minimum Number of Enrollments
Due to the reasons listed above, there will also be a minimum number of players for each sport. If we do not reach our enrollment goals by the end of the first week of practices, we will have to cancel the season.
All changes we make to the Logan Sports Program are with these goals in mind.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
