This Month’s Topic: Academic Advising and Registration
As we seek to support our students at Vanderbilt, I wanted to share some information about registration and the unique approaches to academic advising across four undergraduate schools. It is important to note that each school handles advising differently. However, they all utilize the Undergraduate Catalog to guide students. The Undergraduate Catalog is a wealth of information regarding courses of study at Vanderbilt.
Volunteers needed for Incoming Parent Welcome Outreach!
As a volunteer, you will receive a list of five to 10 incoming parents. Your role will be to engage with them through a welcome email during the spring admissions phases, contributing to a supportive network. Our goal is for every incoming parent to receive a welcome email from a current parent. Help us welcome and connect with the newest members of our Vanderbilt community!
The Career Center shares the top five things that parents can do to support their students on their career empowerment journey during Winter Break:
Encourage them to engage with the VandyPASSWinter Break experience set: Winter break is an excellent time for your student to enhance their skills and build their professional portfolio. Being on winter break offers a prime opportunity for networking, attending career-related events, completing skills courses or even job shadowing, all of which can expand their professional network and open doors for their future. The VandyPASS winter break experience set provides students with a variety of activities for students to complete to hone their professional skill sets to make themselves more marketable to employers. Students who complete a select amount of activities in the winter break experience set will also be put in a drawing for an Echo Dot speaker. Encourage your student to lean into making the most of their break while still allowing them time to connect with family and friends.
Review the Picture Your Career Workbook: Using visual thinking techniques, this workbook will help your student discover their strengths, develop their vision, design a path forward and deliver their talent.
Explore the What Can I Do with This Major online resource. Have them click the Career & Major Exploration menu option and select the link from the drop-down list.
Remind them to update their Handshake Profile to include new industry interests or post-graduation goals—this helps the Handshake algorithm expose them to more relevant opportunities, events and employers!
