The tennis and golf teams are gearing up this year for some exciting seasons, with some of their first matches and tournaments this past week. Senior Julia Carlin, is excited that this year is her first year on the tennis team!
“It’s senior year, why not go for it?” she said.
Julia says she has had the best time and joining the team was an awesome decision.
“My favorite part about the team is being with my friends, and learning a new sport,” she said.
She says that she is also looking forward to getting to know those on the team that she doesn’t normally hang out with. One of the things that Julia really wants to get better at is backhand. She says that it will be easy because the new coach, Coach Rosenow, is super chill and awesome. Julia says that one of her closest friends on the team is Izzy Hovater. One of her proudest moments was when they won their first doubles match together.
The golf team has had just as exciting a start to their season as well. Chase Lillard is a junior who has been playing golf since he was 4. He says that when he was little, he didn’t take it seriously, but now he really takes it seriously and tries his hardest. Chase prepares for big tournaments by going to the range to get loose. He says he likes to hit a few drives and practice his chipping before he’s ready to compete. Like Julia, Chase says that his friends are on the golf team, and that’s one of his favorite parts about it.
“It’s fun that it's pretty laid back when I get to play with them,” he said.
Chase shared one of his proudest moments on the golf course, which was with his brother.
“We were about 50 yards away, and I said, ‘If I make this, you have to go jump in the pond.'”
Chase says that he made it, but he's still waiting on his brother to jump in that pond.

Zachary Moore, a junior, is a new student at CAC this year. This summer he had a lot of fun and got to do many things during his months off before starting back to his new school.
“This summer I was involved in a lot of extracurricular activities, mainly civil air patrol, also did a lot of Fastangs with the starting of the school year, and it was a lot of work at David’s burgers too,” he said.

Zach is trying to go into the air force one day, so civil air patrol is one of Zach’s main activities, which he does every Tuesday.
“[Civil Air Patrol] is an auxiliary to the Airforce, and there’s a lot of leadership, ground team, and if I chose to I could get my pilot’s license within about a year and a half or so.”
Zach also enjoys traveling during summer. He said that his favorite travel spot he’s been to is South Padre Island, which is off the coast of Corpus Christi. There, he got to see some turtles hatch on the Gulf of Mexico.
Zach also says he enjoyed summer lifting and hanging out with his friends before coming back to school. Additionally, he recounts his first day of school experience.
“It was pretty awesome since I knew most of the guys on the football team... There’s also people here who go to my church, so I already had a pretty decent background with the people here and I knew a lot of them, so it was pretty cool in general.”
