Real-World Finance in the Classroom |
Looking for ways to make your finance courses more engaging? Professors Oscar Solis and Eric McKee (West Texas A&M University) published a study in the Journal of Financial Education (Spring 2025) on the use of WRDS in introductory finance courses. They developed a financial ratios assignment teaching students to query and download data directly from WRDS.
The authors identified several benefits of using WRDS. In short, they found incorporating WRDS into coursework gives students practical experience with real financial data: ”providing students with a hands-on experience,” “real-world application,” and “strengthening students’ transferable skills.” (Solis & McKee, 2025, p. 86)
Visit Classroom by WRDS for ideas on how to integrate WRDS into your curriculum, and our Classroom Account support page to learn how to provide students with access to the data.
