From the Principal's Desk

Dear RSES families,

This is the final Tiger Talk for 2025-2026!

What a year it's been! As we head into May, a few reminders:

Outdoor Gear: Despite the spring weather feeling more like March, we take kids outside for recess unless it's below 10°F or pouring rain. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing.

May Events: Watch for "The Week Ahead" emails from Mrs. Sheets every Friday to stay on top of our busy calendar—including our Spring Concert, happening during the school day on May 19th, as an all-school assembly. Parents are welcome but not required!

Thank You: As this year comes to a close, I'm deeply grateful for your love and support. RSES has such a special culture, and we're fortunate to share it. Next week during Teacher Appreciation Week, please take a moment to thank a staff member—a note, email, or kind word means more than you know and keeps us energized through the finish line.

With much appreciation,

Anne C. Heckman

Hello RSES Families,

Please have a fun and safe summer.  I look forward to being back in uniform and part of the daily routine for the 26/27 school year.

Have fun and be safe!!!

Spotlight on Art

Our Kindergarteners have been learning about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. They applied their knowledge of shapes and colors to create a painting inspired by his Squares with Concentric Circles artwork.

First grade artists are learning about Andy Warhol. They will be experimenting with bright colors of paint to create a unique art piece just in time for spring!

Artists in second grade recently spent time using their observational skills to figure out the answer to the question “ How was that art made?” From there, they created plates and pulled animal prints during our exciting printmaking lesson!

Third grade artists recently began a lesson on art from Japan. They will be doing a deep dive into printmaking by creating Gyotaku scrolls.

Fourth grade artists recently wrapped up their creations inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream. Students were intrigued by the backstory of how these famous masterpieces were stolen twice from art museums!

Fifth grade artists just finished up on their hand drawn pixel art and will begin experimenting with the printmaking section of this lesson soon.

Spotlight on PE

Spotlight on STEM

Here’s a quick peek at what some students are exploring in STEM this month!

Kindergarten students are getting their hands dirty planting seeds and observing how their plants grow. They’re tracking changes over time and learning what plants need to survive.

2nd Grade students are diving into the amazing diversity of animals and habitats! They’re learning how animals are classified based on their traits and exploring how living and non-living parts of environments impact which organisms can thrive there.

3rd Grade students are investigating inherited and acquired traits in plants and animals. They’re analyzing how traits vary, how they are passed down, and how they can change over time through natural and artificial selection. They’re also exploring how environments influence traits that help organisms survive.

Spotlight on SEL

Students in grades 3-5 will finish the school year with a Growth Mindset and Goal Setting Unit.

3rd graders will learn about the importance of practice and how it changes the brain. Students will see how trying repeatedly and making mistakes help their brain form and strengthen connections so that their skills improve.

4th graders will learn how to set and work toward a collaborative goal with a small group. Students will work together to create a plan, take action, and reflect on their progress along the way. They will  also learn how to overcome obstacles, stay motivated, and support each other.

5th graders will explore a process for setting and achieving personal goals. They will learn strategies to overcome obstacles and then reflect on their progress and experiences with goal-setting. This unit teaches skills that empower students to take charge of their personal growth and development.

Why is this important?

Research shows that children who learn the skills in this unit are more likely to:

be more adaptable

build stronger teamwork and communication skills

develop greater confidence and motivation

build resilience when facing challenges

As a bonus - officer Greg will lead a lesson with 5th graders about internet safety!
