We Build People Annual Campaign

A new YOTA Season is upon us and the never-ending changes brings a myriad of uncertainty, but some things do not change, our focus on character development and the continued improvement of our YOTA family is front and center. There is no better way to start than with the YMCA Annual “WeBuildPeople” Campaign and our greatest opportunity to change lives and make a positive impact in our communities. This program is one of the many things that separates YOTA and any other program across the country. The WBP Campaign is a movement to raise scholarship money for those that cannot otherwise afford to be a part of life changing programs offered by the Y. Some of these scholarships hit home and influence our teammates directly with many YOTA swimmers on financial assistance. In many other cases throughout the Triangle, this campaign is impacting those in youth sports, education, summer camps, cancer survivors, teen leadership programs, etc. This is the only time all year where we ask for your participation in a fundraising type of campaign.
PARENT DRIVEN GIFTS help us come together as a YOTA community and set an example of impact for our athletes. We are hopeful that you can open your hearts to give generously to this cause.
ATHLETE DRIVEN GIFTS come through effort and events like the Swim Challenge and simply getting out the word to friends and family. This campaign is very important to the personal development of our athletes.  YOTA is an avenue to teach our athletes how to be a part of something bigger than themselves and that the impact we can make together as a team is enormous. We want our athletes to learn the values of philanthropy and what it truly means to make a difference.
There is never any pressure to give, and in fact, we would rather a person not give at all than to give to this campaign because they feel they must, but to us this is not about money.  This campaign is what gives the chance to build young people through our program which teaches the values that lead to loving, caring, genuine, determined, persistent, responsible, respectful, honest, and philanthropic people. A program that, through the demand of high-level swimming, WILL generate success in life. We know this to be true because we have seen it!

Leadership Camp Recap

YOTA swim team hosted its annual Senior Leadership camp the weekend of September 13-15 at Camp Seafarer. This year we had 172 athletes from YOTA, LOWES, RACY, RMY & GOLD come together for this meaningful weekend. Our theme for our workshops was Vulnerability and athletes engaged in activities to build skills & knowledge. We also trained in the pool, raced in the river, participated in dryland and had lots of fun experiencing camp activities. Once again, swimmers learned and practiced skills that helped them develop a sense of belonging and built a foundation for lifelong personal growth, all while enjoying swim training and camp activities in the most amazing setting!

YOTA Intrasquad Recap

319 YOTA Age Group Athletes kicked off the competitive season with a great morning of racing at the Taylor Family YMCA on September 29th. Each year, this meet proves to be one of the most blissfully chaotic meets of the year. For so many, this meet is their first ever swim meet or their first meet with YOTA. These swimmers are starting to learn the very basics of swim meets like what event/heat/lane means, what the starting whistle protocol is, and of the rules for legal technique and races within the pool. This novice energy balanced by our seasoned age groupers who were leading by example and cheering their new teammates on, was a great way to get the season started. Thank you to all of our awesome officials and volunteers who made the day a huge success!

SwimStrong Dryland

We are officially entering our 3rd season partnering with SwimStrong Dryland.  SwimStrong continues to provide YOTA with limitless resources on injury prevention, nutrition and leadership opportunities. You can view their fall 2024 nutrition challenge HERE to help develop good habits outside of the pool.  One of the new opportunities that SwimStrong is offering is their swim parent wellness program. Their mission is to help parents be/feel their best for maximum joy and positive impact on their kids.  They have hired Chuck Andrews, a certified trainer and life coach, to create functional training and nutrition education for parents with athletes in the SwimStrong Dryland program. The program is free for the first month, then $75 a month after. Any questions about the program can be directed to swimstrongdrylandparents@gmail.com. They have also updated their website to include many exercises, injury prevention prehab series, and many more. Please ask your site director for the website password if you do not have access to this. We are so excited to get  back to work with SwimStrong dryland and hope to see another year of improvement out of the water!

USA Swimming Registration

The YOTA Swim Team is both a registered YMCA Swimming team and a USA Swimming team. YOTA Swimmers are automatically registered with YMCA Swimming through team registration, but USA Swimming registration is a separate process. All YOTA swimmers are required to register with USA Swimming as a premium athlete for the 2024-2025 season through one of the following steps below:
1. If your swimmer was registered with USA Swimming through YOTA last year, please go to their member dashboard and click renew.
2. If your swimmer is new to USA Swimming, please register them using this YOTA specific link.
3. If your swimmer receives free or reduced lunches at school, they qualify to register through the outreach membership program HERE. After registering with the outreach membership, you will need to send Coach Jamie Bloom (jamie.bloom@ymcatriangle.org) a copy of the Reduced or Free Lunch letter you received from your school.
