SCOTUS declined to take up an 8th Circuit Court of Appeals case in Arkansas asking who has the right to file a lawsuit under Section 208 of the VRA. However, VRP Faculty Director Matt Barreto explains that SCOTUS must still weigh in on an important 8th Circuit case in Turtle Mountain, North Dakota to fully decide the private right of action issue in voting rights cases.

Two Major Voting Rights Bills Pass CA Assembly Elections |

Congratulations to Senator Sabrina Cervantes as her two marquee democracy protection bills passed the California Assembly Elections Committee this week. SB 1164 and SB 1360 prohibit all forms of voting discrimination, vote dilution, ensures voters can protect their rights, and expands upon current Section 203 language coverage.
