Dear Division of Student Affairs Team,
As we begin the new academic year, I’m pleased to announce the promotion of three Executive Directors to Assistant Vice Presidents within the Division of Student Affairs. These individuals will still lead their respective departments, and the promotions reflect their deep operational expertise, strategic leadership and sustained contributions to our students:
Marla Craig, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC). In 2001, Marla began her career at CMHC as an intern and contract therapist, eventually ascending to senior clinical director before taking on her current role in 2023. She will continue to report to Associate Vice President for Health and Well-being Chris Brownson.
Susan Hochman, University Health Services (UHS). Susan began her career at UHS in 2010 as the manager of health promotion, which has led to progressive leadership positions at UHS and Healthyhorns. She will continue to report to Chris Brownson.
Jennifer Speer, Recreational Sports. Jennifer is now entering her 27th year at Recreational Sports after beginning her career there as an Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness and then rising to her current role. She will report directly to me. I would like to thank Chris Brownson for his leadership of this department since 2023.
These changes take effect September 1.
Along with these promotions, we are also updating our leadership structure. A new Vice President for Student Affairs Council will replace the Associate Vice Presidents group as the Division’s core leadership team.
Marla, Susan and Jennifer will join Associate Vice President for Health and Well-Being Chris Brownson, Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Katie McGee and the future Assistant Vice President of the University Unions on this council.
In addition, David Anthony, Brooke Bulow and Anne Steele, who lead the Division’s finance, communications and human resources operations, will serve as ex officio members. My executive assistant, Nilka Campos, will provide administrative support.
I am confident this group will be a dynamic team dedicated to elevating the student life experience on our campus in meaningful ways that spark far-reaching impact. This new framework reinforces the great work happening across the Division and will enhance the one and only Longhorn experience. Please join me in congratulating Marla, Susan and Jennifer on their well-deserved new leadership roles.
