Dear Students,
I am very saddened to share the heartbreaking news that Adam Djibril Nimaga, an undergraduate student in Peabody College, tragically passed away today on campus near the 25th Avenue Garage. Adam’s family has been notified and helped contribute to this communication to honor him and ensure we respect their privacy as they grieve. We are sending our deepest condolences to all of his family and friends.
Adam, originally from Richmond, Virginia, joined the Vanderbilt community during the 2021-22 academic year. Majoring in Human and Organizational Development, Adam actively immersed himself in academic and campus life, studying abroad in Barcelona during the Spring 2024 semester and joining several organizations that complemented his academic pursuits and passion for basketball.
Adam’s family shared that he loved the Vanderbilt community and found belonging in the groups he joined during his Vanderbilt experience. Adam was involved in Sigma Chi, Product Space, Phi Chi Theta, and the Commodore Capital Group and was a leader on the Vanderbilt Club Basketball team.
The passing of a friend, peer, or classmate is an incredibly challenging experience. During this time, please remember the importance of reaching out for support from available resources and caring for one another. Whether it’s through talking with friends or connecting with Vanderbilt’s Student Care Network, please know that support is available for anyone who may need it. Checking in with those around you, even with a simple conversation, can make a meaningful difference.
I urge anyone in need of support to utilize the resources listed below.
Sincerely,
G.L. Black
