Dear Vanderbilt community,
Yesterday’s tragic shooting at The Covenant School was devastating for our Nashville community. We are mourning those who lost their lives at the school, including Covenant head of school and Peabody College alumna Katherine Koonce. We also hold in our hearts the other victims and their families, many of whom have connections to Vanderbilt.
In light of yesterday’s events, I am
opening up this week’s previously planned all-staff online meeting to the entire Vanderbilt community. Rather than discussing the Sesquicentennial, we will discuss what happened at Covenant, its impact on our community and the resources available to you. I will be joined by
Cybele Raver, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs;
Pam Jones, associate vice chancellor for health and wellness;
August Washington, senior associate vice chancellor for public safety and special initiatives; and
G.L. Black, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students.
The all-community meeting, planned to last approximately 45 minutes, will be online on Wednesday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m. You can register for the meeting
here.
Please continue to keep The Covenant School community in your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Daniel Diermeier
Chancellor
