This Month’s Topic: Supporting your student

It’s been a month since our students moved in. They’ve met friends, navigated the campus and the construction, managed meals, joined clubs and may have even missed home. Even though they are away, there are still many ways you can support them without interfering in their college experience.

Family Weekend 2024 celebrates Commodore Community

Nearly 4,200 parents, grandparents, siblings and friends convened on the Vanderbilt campus to celebrate Family Weekend 2024. This year’s event was one of the most successfully attended in recent memory, recording the highest attendance number in five years.

Upcoming Career Center Events

If your student is looking for internship or full-time opportunities or exploring more career options, the VUCC is hosting the following fairs and events:

Sept. 23–27: Commodore Career Week featuring Diversity in the Workplace Networking Night and the Career & Experience Expo

Oct. 1: Law School Fair

All events are in Handshake (search the event name) and are open for your students to RSVP.

Fight the flu with Flulapalooza

Flulapalooza XII will be on Wednesday, Sept. 25, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the white tent between Light Hall and the VA Hospital. This fun-filled, efficient and fast-paced flu-shot event is open to all VU and VUMC faculty, staff and enrolled students. There is no cost for the vaccine, and thousands are expected to attend.

Students should bring their Vanderbilt ID and wear short sleeves.

The Student Health Center recommends that all students get an influenza vaccination this fall—getting the flu shot is the best way to reduce the risk of getting and spreading the flu.
