UAH’s Tennessee Resident Scholarships can make a big difference for out-of-state students |
The UAH Tennessee Resident Scholarship Program plays a pivotal role in many students’ decisions to attend UAH. It’s one of two ways Tennessee residents can receive in-state tuition at UAH. For Kara Trim, a senior with a double major in chemistry and biology, it “not only made UAH accessible but also underscored the university’s commitment to supporting students from all backgrounds.”

UAH team places eighth internationally in 2024 University Rover Challenge |
UAH placed eight internationally in the 2024 University Rover Challenge (URC) in Moab, Utah, earlier this year. UAH competed among a total of 102 teams, with a record 38 teams from 10 countries advancing to the last stage of the competition. Team ASTRA, a subset of the UAH Space Hardware Club, also placed fifth among all United States teams.

Space Hardware Club has launched its biggest, most advanced spacecraft with NASA |
The TERMINUS research group, part of the UAH Space Hardware Club, has launched another payload—the second in three years—as part of NASA’s RockSat Program. The culmination of two years of work by roughly 90 students, the UAH spacecraft included two primary systems: a reusable, modular spacecraft bus called JUPITER and a special satellite deployment experiment named SwingSat.

UAH researcher wins $750K EPSCoR grant to support STROBE-X explorations of gravitational wave sources, black holes and dark matter |
UAH researcher Dr. Sukyanya Chakrabarti is leading an international team of researchers to support the Spectroscopic Time-Resolving Observatory for Broadband Energy X-rays, or STROBE-X, a planned $1 billion probe-class NASA observatory that is equipped with a huge collecting area to survey the X-ray sky. It will explore gravitational wave sources, black holes and dark matter. “It's hard to overstate the importance of this project and its potential impact on astronomy,” Chakrabarti says.

OLLI at UAH has a new look! The popular name, OLLI, is now highlighted in the institute’s new logo. The public is invited to the OLLI open house on Friday, Aug. 16. You can meet OLLI instructors, board members and staff as well as learn about the 60-plus courses on the fall 2024 schedule.

This summer, the College of Science hosted two weeks of activities in support of the 2024 CAP & GOWN Project STEM Summer Institute. The free outreach program helps students in grades 9-12 prepare for their college experience and provides future career connections.
