Dear Megan,
We have an important update about Vanderbilt's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) to share with you.
A broadly representative committee comprising student representatives and other members of the university has chosen UnitedHealthcare (UHC) to be the new carrier for Vanderbilt University's student health insurance plan for the 2024-2025 academic year. This decision was made based on the needs of Vanderbilt students, along with UHC's extensive provider network and competitive pricing. The insurance carrier transition will go into effect on August 12, 2024. Cost sheets for SHIP can be found on AHP’s website.
We anticipate that the majority of students who have previously been enrolled in SHIP will not experience any disruption in care because of UHC's wide provider network. However, we encourage you to check with your providers to confirm whether they accept UHC to prepare for the carrier transition. Please note that all Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) providers are part of the UHC network. You will also maintain access to the vision and dental benefits provided in the 2023-2024 plan.
You can search for providers within the UHC network using UHC’s provider search tool. You may also search for community mental health providers, both in Nashville and nationwide, using Welltrack Connect and filtering by providers who accept UHC. If you need additional assistance with finding a mental health provider who accepts UHC, you can reach out to Student Care Coordination (SCC) at studentcare@vanderbilt.edu who can provide guidance on finding a provider who meets your specific needs. The Student Health Center (SHC) is the primary care provider for Vanderbilt students and offers comprehensive services regardless of insurance coverage.
We are here to support all SHIP students during the insurance carrier transition. Please email SHIP@vanderbilt.edu with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
The Vanderbilt University SHIP Team
