We know it’s summer by the orange barrels all around Michigan. In East Lansing, you can find construction on campus and on Grand River, as well as I-127, from Lake Lansing to I-69. Construction abounds across the state, so if traveling, be sure to look ahead for construction delays and detours, and slow down in those construction zones.
Planning is underway for move-in and Family Weekend (October 16–18), as well as summer events like Spartan Welcome Days and Green & White Days. If you’re a planner, you might like the 2026-27 Spartan Family Calendar (aka squirrel calendar) with all the important MSU information in one handy spot for your family planning. Preorder one now for shipping to your home or plan to pick one up in either the 1855 Place or MSU Union Spartan Spirit Shops starting in July!
Finally, to address the news from last week, we are preparing to say goodbye to President Guskiewicz after he announced plans to depart MSU. We greatly value these last two years under his leadership that has set the university on a positive trajectory — one that we will continue during this transition and beyond. The institution’s strength has never depended on any one individual, however. The university’s mission, talent and momentum continue well beyond leadership transitions. As it has in the past, Michigan State University will continue demonstrating resiliency. Our commitment to students, faculty, research, healthcare, athletics, extension and public impact remains unchanged. We wish the Guskiewicz family well and look forward to MSU’s next chapter.
Until next month, take good care,
Laurin

Incoming Student Housing Preferences Due June 12
Housing preferences for incoming students are due by June 12 and now is a great time to check in and be sure your student has completed this step. Through the Housing Preference Form, students will indicate their preferred bathroom style (suite-style or community-style), select a dining plan, and share any interest in Special Community.
If your student plans to live in a Living-Learning Community (LLC) and has a specific roommate in mind, it’s important that both students meet the requirements for that community. If no roommate is selected, one will be assigned based on the preferences submitted. These responses help our team identify compatible living styles and preferences to support a positive residential experience.
Please note that while we do our best to honor bathroom style preferences, final assignments may be influenced by space availability, roommate selections, or LLC guidelines.
To learn more about housing preferences, visit our How to Complete Preferences webpage and process overview video.

Students can still keep their CX and still have access to nutritious meals, a variety of choices and convenient dining locations across campus making it easy to stay fueled throughout the day!

Collegiate Recovery Community: Summer Circle Theatre
Students are invited to join University Health and Wellbeing’s Collegiate Recovery Community June 18 for an evening at Summer Circle Theatre, a campus tradition for more than 60 years. The CRC will attend the theatre’s showing of “Honky Tonk Laundry, the Musical."
Before the show, students are invited to the All Recovery Meeting at 6 p.m., in the CRC Lounge (Student Services Building, Room 27). After the meeting, the group will walk together to the Summer Circle Theatre Courtyard between the MSU Auditorium and Kresge Art Center. This emergency resource was created to provide students who engage with the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center with flexible assistance in a timely manner to address extraordinary and unexpected financial hardships. Awards are made to assist with expenses that support their health, wellness, and safety. The Unconditional Love Fund relies on the generosity of our community to impact students’ lives.
