Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

After last week’s winter weather, it’s hard to believe that the spring midterm grading period begins next week. I know that this year has brought several unexpected scheduling changes and that you may be adjusting your courses accordingly. Please continue to communicate any updates to your students as soon as they are finalized. I appreciate your leadership and expertise in determining the most effective instruction methods for your subject.

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. The Graduate Research Symposium takes place this week on Thursday, February 27th, and Friday, February 28th, in the Sadler Center. Convening graduate students from multiple programs and degree stages, this event is a great opportunity for lively interdisciplinary exchange. I encourage you to take a look at the 2025 program and participate as your schedules allow.

  2. Applications for the Faculty Advancement Fellows Program are due by March 1st. Fellows will be active participants in William & Mary’s next comprehensive fundraising campaign and will play a vital role in engaging with donors, representing the university at events, and advocating for our mission. They will gain exclusive access to high-level events and donor engagement centered on areas of their expertise. Additionally, they will participate in select board meetings and serve as liaisons for their schools or units. Please speak with your dean to express your interest or to nominate a colleague.

  3. Access to DeepSeek AI is now prohibited on state-owned devices. Students, faculty, and staff who have already downloaded the DeepSeek AI application, or any other application developed by DeepSeek, to any university-issued device should uninstall, remove, and delete these immediately.

  4. You’re invited to join W&M instructors currently using Virtual Reality in their courses to learn how VR exploration has benefited their students. This Wednesday, February 26th, attend a community conversation at noon in Boswell Hall 341 with a lab tour and workshop to follow. You can attend remotely or join live to receive lunch. Please RSVP.

  5. This week’s shoutout goes to our outstanding W&M Dining team who went above and beyond to communicate updates to the community and make sure campus residents had meal access throughout Winter Storm Kingston. Thank you!

Finally, please be sure to take advantage of the fantastic Professional Development Week programming that begins today.
