| Farewell Reception for Father Nate: Please join us on Sunday, September 6, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium as we gather to celebrate Father Nate’s ministry at Christ Church and wish him and Katherine godspeed as they begin their next chapter. Come raise a glass, share a story, and enjoy cake and hors d’oeuvres as we give thanks for these years of service and friendship.
Weekday Services: Weekday services in the Chapel of Saint Jude – both Morning Prayer and the Holy Eucharist – have been suspended for the summer. They will resume on Monday, September 14.
Homecoming Sunday: All are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, September 13, for the official start of the 2026–2027 program year. As is our custom, a combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be followed by a barbeque feast, as well as activities for parishioners of all ages. Volunteer information will follow. We look forward to celebrating the start of a new program year with you and yours! NOTE: The combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be the only service on Homecoming Sunday.

| Saint Francis Guild Update: On Tuesday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m., the Saint Francis Guild, Christ Church’s animal welfare and creation care mission group, invites parishioners and members of the wider community to participate in an online discussion about the 2006 film Amazing Grace, which chronicles the life of the 18th/19th century British politician and philanthropist William Wilberforce, a convert to Anglicanism, and his efforts to abolish the African slave trade. An early advocate for animal welfare, Wilberforce co-founded the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Participants are asked to view the film in advance of the online discussion. It is available for rent on YouTube and Apple TV+ and is held at a number of local libraries. To register, contact parishioner Sheila Ward: sheilaward@fastmail.fm.
Faith and Foreign Policy Forum: On Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m., parishioners and members of the wider community are invited to the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium for a presentation by fellow parishioner Dr. Shireen Hunter, who will speak about the intersection of religion, state, and foreign policy in the Middle East. A former member of the faculty at Georgetown University and recipient of the Carnegie Corporation’s Great Immigrants Award, Dr. Hunter is the author of The Future of Islam and the West: Clash of Civilizations or Peaceful Coexistence? (Praeger, 1998), and God on Our Side: Religion in International Affairs (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017). Light refreshments will be served. The cost of the event is $10 per person, payable upon registration or at the door.
Call Box Restoration: As many have noticed, the iconic emergency call box turned historical marker at the corner of 31st and O Streets has been missing for some time now. Last year, a truck (not affiliated with Christ Church) struck and dislodged the marker. A group of Georgetown residents have launched a fundraiser to support its restoration. Thrift Shop Update: The Thrift Shop Guild offers sincere thanks to parishioners and members of the wider community who have supported its efforts throughout the 2025–2026 season. This year’s profits far surpassed those of previous years, thus enabling significant charitable contributions to various mission partners. The Thrift Shop is now closed for the summer. It will reopen on Wednesday, September 9. Because inventory has reached a critical low, the Thrift Shop Guild seeks donations of unused or unwanted treasures at this time: clothing, jewelry, antiques, china, glassware, household items, etc. Throughout the summer, donations will be accepted by appointment at the Parish Office.
Calling all Veterans and Active-duty Parishioners: The Rector and other parish leaders are considering the formation of a Veterans Affinity Group at Christ Church, as well as the organization of a dinner on Veterans Day, November 11. If you are a veteran or an active-duty member of the military, and would like to be part of the conversation, please email us here.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
