Congratulation Mrs. Dougherty & Staff

AFHK is recognizing school districts to spotlight innovative practices, student and community engagement activities, and strategies schools have used to provide meals that are consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans—all as part of a cooperative agreement to develop and implement the USDA FNS’s Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative. Learn more about the Healthy Meals Incentives at www.healthymealsincentives.org.

We congratulate Saint Vincent de Paul School on this important achievement,” said Rob Bisceglie, Executive Officer & President for Action for Healthy Kids. “The HMI Recognition Awards are an opportunity to showcase innovative school nutrition practices that provide children with access to nutritious school meals,” he added.

Healthy school meals are an essential part of the school environment and a proven tool for improving a child’s health, growth, development, and educational outcomes. AFHK and USDA are committed to working together to strengthen school meals and investment in a bright future for our children.

Awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) in collaboration with Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK), SVdP received the Innovation in the Preparation of School Meals Award for our work in scratch cooking meals using USDA foods in accordance with the USDA recipe standardization process and incorporating student engagement.

As an award recipient, SVdP will receive national and local recognition.

Congratulations to Mrs. Amy Dougherty and her staff for being chosen for this award.

Our New Memorial Garden

Over the summer, outside the Junior High entrance we created a Memorial Garden. This is a dedicated space designed to honor and remember members of our school community who have passed away. This includes students, parents and staff. The primary purpose is to honor the memory of those we loved, keeping their spirits alive through a living tribute.  We hope it will provide a tranquil and meaningful place for reflection, healing, and remembrance, intertwining nature with cherished memories.

A plaque has been ordered with the following phrase:

“May this garden be a place of peace, prayer and remembrance for all who gave their light to the St. Vincent de Paul School Community”

Girls on the Run Needs Coaches This Fall Grades 3rd - 5th

Girls on the Run is gearing up for another season of friendship and 5K fun at St. Vincent de Paul this fall.

We’re looking for two or three positive-minded people to coach after school for 16 lessons between Sept. 8 and Nov. 5.

You DON’T have to be a runner to get involved—you just need to live a healthy lifestyle, project a positive attitude, and have passion to help young girls put their best foot forward with our transformational social-emotional learning program.

Girls on the Run is an innovative after-school program that combines exercise, education, and mentoring to promote self-esteem, goal-setting, and healthy living in  3rd-5th grade girls. Teams meet for 75 minutes twice a week for two months to play interactive running games and train for a 5K run/walk at the end of the season. Lessons on goal-setting, health, communication, and teamwork are incorporated with the physical training, so girls get a well-rounded, positive experience in a noncompetitive atmosphere.

The overall time commitment for first-time coaches is about 30 hours and entails:

Sixteen 75-minute lessons with the team (twice weekly for two months)

Online training modules

Pre-season meeting

GOTR 5K Oct. 26 in Lincoln

CPR/First Aid, if needed (one coach per site must be certified, and we can provide training)

Find out for yourself why “Girls on the Run is so much fun!”. Visit www.GOTRNebraska.org to learn more about this rewarding (and FUN!) short-term volunteer opportunity., or APPLY TODAY to get the process started.
