Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

I understand that questions continue to arise regarding recent federal initiatives, and I want to acknowledge the challenge of navigating evolving circumstances. Senior Vice President Ginger Ambler and I will be providing an update with additional information later this week. In the meantime, please know how much I appreciate your dedication to our students, our mission, and the support you offer one another.

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. It was wonderful to spend time with many of you throughout all of the Charter Day festivities. Between the announcement of the $50M historic scholarship gift and the reopening of the world-class Muscarelle Museum of Art, we have much to celebrate together as a W&M community.

  2. It’s never too early to begin planning for your retirement. There is an upcoming Zoom retirement planning information session on Friday, February 14th at 3 pm. On March 6th, you’re also invited to attend "Transitioning into Retirement" from 1:00- 2:30 p.m. in Blow Hall 201. These sessions will discuss strategies, consider the idea of an emeritus faculty association, and provide other retirement resources.

  3. Reveley Fellows applications are now open. The Reveley Fellowship’s goal is to stimulate intellectual creativity across the campus by facilitating faculty commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research. Please apply by 5 p.m. on March 7th. An information session on this program will be hosted on February 20th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Please RSVP for this online session.

  4. AI is transforming how we think about learning and knowledge creation. The W&M AI Policy Initiative Committee (AIPI) has been tasked with initiating policy formation for several subject areas related to AI. As part of the process, AIPI will host three town hall meetings to seek feedback from the W&M community. Students are invited to attend a virtual Town Hall at 5 p.m. on February 18th. Please encourage your students to take part as their schedules allow. Two additional Town Halls for faculty and the broader campus community will take place in March. Stay tuned for additional details in the coming weeks.

  5. This week’s shoutout goes to the many individuals and teams across campus who worked together to create a fantastic Charter Day celebration, as well as the cross-functional working groups that ensured the success of last week’s meetings of multiple Boards, including the BOV and the W&M Foundation Board. Your dedication, collaboration, and expertise truly showcased academic excellence at W&M—thank you for all that you do!
