How to Register and Apply

SPARK talks will take place every other month starting November of 2023.

Register to give a short 30-minute talk by submitting an abstract via our online portal.

Invite your colleagues and mentors to attend for real-time feedback.

Apply to participate in the SPARK Initiative funding right after your presentation through the same online portal.

Black women physicians’ stories have gone untold for far too long, leaving gaping holes in American medical history, in women’s history, and in black history. It’s time to set the record straight

No real account of black women physicians in the US exists, and what little mention is made of these women in existing histories is often insubstantial or altogether incorrect. In this work of extensive research, Jasmine Brown offers a rich new perspective, penning the long-erased stories of nine pioneering black women physicians beginning in 1860, when a black woman first entered medical school.

Rising Together Book Discussion

Join us as we discuss Sally Helgesen’s Rising Together: How We Can Bridge Divides and Create a More Inclusive Workplace. This is an opportunity to discuss ways to foster welcoming work communities while meeting new colleagues from across the School of Medicine.

The first 50 registrants will receive a free copy of the book. Breakfast or lunch will be provided at each session. Participants will register for one, 90-minute session.

Sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Renée Shellhaas, MD, MS, Associate Dean for Faculty Promotions and Career Development, and Dr. Abby Spencer, MD, MS, Professor and Vice Chair of Education, Department of Medicine.

These discussion sessions, the first in a new series hosted by OFPCD, will feature new titles and discussants that will be announced soon.

Overview: The Academy of Educators Mentorship Subcommittee is pleased to offer an in-person workshop series on Mentorship Best Practices.  This is a 3-part series that will discuss best practices, skill building, culturally responsive mentorship, and mentorship challenges.
