Resource Highlight: The Store

Food insecurity can look different for everyone, such as running out of meal swipes and limiting meals, eating snacks or other non-nourishing foods for meals, or stress/ anxiety about where the next meal is going to come from. This can often lead to not being able to focus on school. If The Store sounds like an appropriate resource for you, see below for additional information about their operations.

What is The Store?

The Store is the George Washington University’s on-campus food pantry, providing students free access to fresh food, dry goods, and hygiene items. In the 2024–2025 academic year, The Store distributed more than 50,000 pounds of food to 950 students across 10,000 visits.

The Store is located in the District House basement level, in B121. Please check their website for opening hours.

How can I access The Store?

The Store's pantry is open to any GW students who are experiencing food insecurity, as long as they are enrolled in at least one credit hour and do not have another staff/ faculty designation at GW.

Before visiting The Store for the first time, complete their intake form (linked from The Store's website under "I want to shop.") You can visit The Store as soon as you have received their confirmation email. You will be registered in their system within 24 hours, and should only need to show the confirmation email on your first visit.

Each time you shop, you will swipe your GWorld, and then shop with a basket. The Store asks shoppers to come once a week and to follow the color category limits system to ensure that they are able to serve everyone who walks through their doors. Once you finish shopping, you will check out with a staff member. Please bring your own bag. If there are any questions or concerns, please reach out to thegwstore@gwu.edu.

Can I help support The Store?

In short, yes!

If you would like to get involved with The Store, check out their website! They have plenty of opportunities to volunteer, either for a specific event or as a regular volunteer. They will also work with your Student Org to host a food drive. Short on time? You can also drop off donations during their regular opening hours or by appointment, or purchase items directly from their Amazon wishlist.
