This Sunday: Skokie Farmers’ Market Celebrates 50 Years!

The Skokie Farmers’ Market opens for its 50th season this Sunday, June 1, celebrating five decades of fresh, seasonal food, sustainable practices, and vibrant community spirit.
This weekend: Get a free commemorative reusable shopping bag at the Market tent while supplies last and celebrate the Market’s milestone with opening remarks from Mayor Tennes at 10 a.m.
This season: Market visitors will enjoy:

Sustainable Shopping: Community-wide Garage Sale this Weekend

Looking for great deals on unique items? Shop your way through Skokie at the annual Community-wide Garage Sale, Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1!
Sell: Participating is free and doesn’t count towards your three allotted garage sales per year. Last year, approximately 300 locations participated! Sign up here.

Embark On a ‘Clue’ Scavenger Hunt this Summer

Celebrate summer with stories and a fun, free Clue-themed sticker scavenger hunt throughout Downtown Skokie, June 1 through July 31!
Start your adventure: Pick up your map at Skokie Public Library and set off on an adventure to collect free stickers at participating locations.

Coming this June: Main Street Makers Market
|
Summer evenings in Skokie are about to get more creative! The Main Street Makers Market comes to The Storefront (4051 Main St.) on Mondays, June 2, 16 and 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
What to expect: In cooperation with Meetup on Main Street, this lively indoor market celebrates local creativity, bringing together a vibrant mix of jewelry, pottery, ceramics, tote bags, illustrations, photography, and fine art—alongside delicious sweet treats.
Stop by: Meet the makers and support Skokie’s thriving creative community. Admission is free and all are welcome.

In Progress: The Henry at Harms Woods
|
Construction is well underway at The Henry at Harms Woods, located west of the Edens Expressway on Old Orchard Road.
What’s coming: The new development will feature 49 townhomes and 245 multi-family apartments, with 13 units for lease at rents affordable at 100 percent of Area Median Income (AMI). The project will also include 13,000 square feet of prime commercial space.
Zoom out: The Henry is one of several new developments planned for the Old Orchard Road Corridor in the coming years, with more than 1,000 new units approved for construction.

Get Assistance: Skokie Home Improvement Program
|
The Village’s Home Improvement Program assists income-qualified homeowners in maintaining the quality of their homes and improving energy efficiency.
Benefits: Homeowners may qualify for assistance for eligible repairs, such as basic structural repairs, roof, doors, windows, electrical, tuckpointing, heating and weatherization.
Eligibility: Homes must be owner-occupied and households must meet income and other eligibility guidelines. Funding is limited. For questions or more information, email CDBG@skokie.org.

Resources to Fight Rising Electricity Bills
|
Due to an increase in the wholesale cost of electricity, ComEd expects the average customer bill in its service territory to increase by 10 percent this summer.
Resources are available to help:

Other utility bill resources: The Village’s Health and Human Services Department can help residents apply for assistance with Nicor Gas bills, including the Energy Aide, Shield of Caring and Nicor Sharing programs. Call 847-933-8252 for more information.
Solar energy resources: Skokie is proud to be a SolSmart Gold community, making it easier for you to install solar panels at home. The Village also participates in the Community Solar Program, which provides access to community solar farms in northern Illinois, offering guaranteed savings without the need for rooftop solar panels.

Construction Update: Old Orchard Road Project
|
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways reports that crews have completed a majority of the new sidewalk between Skokie Boulevard and Lawler Avenue along the south side of Old Orchard Road.
What’s next: Crews are working on a new concrete retaining wall, which will support a new northbound exit lane from I-94, roadway pavement, and a new pedestrian path. Learn more on the Old Orchard Road project web page.
