|
Maria Pacheco receives her associate degree Tuesday, May 14, at Rock County’s commencement ceremony. A first-generation college student, Pacheco evolved into a campus leader during her two years on campus, and will begin classes on the Whitewater campus this fall.

Warhawk baseball, softball win WIAC championships
|
The UW-Whitewater baseball and softball teams each finished undefeated in their respective Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournaments to win the titles and claim automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Tournaments, which begin this week.

Kudos to the UW-Whitewater club softball team, which qualified for the National Club Softball Association (NCSA) Division 2 World Series, which is scheduled for this Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19, in Cranberry, Pennsylvania. The Warhawks are ranked second in the nation heading into the tournament. Read more »
Kudos to Hannah St. Louis, an art education major from Watertown, who was named the Wisconsin Art Education Association Student of the Year. The award recognizes Hannah’s dedication to advance art education in Wisconsin by collaborating with teachers at the state conference, volunteering in the Visual Arts Classic with area high schools, and maintaining the highest expectations across her art and education courses.
Kudos to Lynn Gilbertson, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders, and Donna Vosburgh, professor of occupational and environmental safety and health, who were co-authors of “Novel Noise Monitoring Prototypes to Measure the Impact of Two-way Radio Earpiece Noise, which was published in the peer-reviewed academic journal SHIFT. Kudos to Ian Black, a music major from Oregon, who will be joining Kids From Wisconsin on their Larger Than Life summer tour. The troupe is composed of 36 student performers between the ages of 15 and 20 who have demonstrated artistic talent, stage personality and choreography in a live audition. Read more »
Kudos to Francisco Torres of Madison and Abbey Codiamat of Bartlett, Illinois, who were awarded the best communication (electronic media) student capstone presentations for the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters, respectively. The awards were voted on by the communication department faculty, staff and students.

Interviewees included Ty Jahnke, the student speaker at the afternoon ceremony who earned an M.S. in applied kinesiology, Katrina Badertscher, who received a BSE in early childhood education, and Julie Zaborowski, who collected a B.A. in social work. Ammiel Jackson, a psychology major from Milwaukee, was featured by Channel 3000. Jackson, a survivor of leukemia thanks to a bone marrow transplant, joined his Warhawk football teammates to raise awareness and register donors for the National Marrow Donor Program at the University Center earlier this month. Warhawk perseveres after family loss
|
Meghan Dunning, a communication sciences and disorders major from Plainfield, Illinois, and member of the UW-Whitewater softball team, lost her mother unexpectedly nearly two years ago. Backed by the support of her Warhawk family and her strength to move forward, Dunning graduated Saturday and will continue her softball career for the Warhawks in the NCAA Tournament this week.

Special Olympics Wisconsin seeks volunteers for the 2024 State Summer Games, which will be held June 6-8 right here on the UW-Whitewater campus. Represent the Warhawk family and be a part of this amazing event.

The last regular issue of Warhawk Weekly for the semester will be Tuesday, May 14. The campus-wide newsletter will publish occasionally throughout the summer and resume weekly publication in fall.
