Dear Eagle Nation:
Welcome back! It is wonderful to see everyone returning to campus as the Spring semester begins. I hope your winter break offered moments of rest, reflection, and renewal, giving you energy and excitement for the months ahead. Every new semester brings opportunities to grow, take on challenges, and connect more deeply with your peers, faculty, and our broader campus community.

Although the recent storm has passed, winter is far from over. Be sure you are signed up for text alerts so you can stay informed about campus closings, delays, emergencies, and other important updates. Staying connected helps keep you safe and ensures we all look out for one another, strengthening the spirit of Eagle Nation.

As we start this semester together, remember that each day is a chance to learn, contribute, and support those around you. From lively classroom discussions to campus events, and even small acts of kindness, every effort helps build the welcoming and vibrant community that makes our campus so special.

I am looking forward to all that this semester will bring: the challenges we will face, the successes we will celebrate, and the memories we will create. Let us move forward with curiosity, resilience, and care for one another, making this a safe, inspiring, and unforgettable start to the year.

Maryland Educators Reunite to Share, Learn, and Inspire at MDCEC Conference

Coppin State Special Education majors and Dr. Anthony Nicole with Dr. Antoine Hickman, former MSDE Assistant State Superintendent: Division of Special Education and his team at the National Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Conference.
After years apart, Maryland’s educators dedicated to exceptional learners are convening in-person for the Maryland Council for Exceptional Children (MDCEC) Conference on February 28, led by Dr. Nicole Anthony, President of MDCEC and Associate Professor of Special Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning.

The past few years have challenged teachers, paraprofessionals, and school leaders. Classrooms changed, routines shifted, and connections stretched thin, but their commitment never wavered. This gathering offers a chance to reconnect, share strategies, celebrate the victories, both big and small, and support students with unique needs.

Attendees will explore inclusive, evidence-based practices, share stories of success, and discover new ways to inspire learning. As the first in-person MDCEC meeting since COVID, the day will serve as a professional development opportunity and a reunion. At the session, the group will revisit their shared mission and collaborative efforts to support this community.

The conference showcases Coppin State's dedication, creativity, and impact of educators shaping the lives of exceptional learners across Maryland.
