Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested
The FBI has arrested sexual assault suspect Nida Muhammad Niazy, aka "Zayn" 31, in Germany. The arrest was on a warrant in connection with two sexual assaults allegedly committed in fall 2022, one at Sacramento State, the other off campus.
The arrest, announced by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office today, was the result of collaboration among Sacramento State Police, The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the FBI.
The Sheriff's Office and the FBI are working with German authorities to have Niazy extradited to Sacramento.
Authorities identified Niazy as the suspect involved in the fall sexual assaults in a November 16, 2022, Timely Warning notification to the campus community. An investigation into his subsequent whereabouts continued until his arrest.
Sacramento State President Robert S. Nelsen thanked law enforcement for the combined work, and expressed concern for student well-being.
"We are always saddened and angered when any student is harmed," he said. "While this arrest does not undo the horrific damage done, we hope that this development will provide some peace and reassurance to the Hornet Family."
Sac State Police Chief Chet Madison said safety for the campus community "remains our top priority" and acknowledged "collaboration and partnership with our local partners at the Sheriff's Office and our federal partners at the FBI for their valued assistance in this case."
