Supporting Our Community: Immigration Enforcement Updates
|
Federal immigration enforcement operations have continued recently in Skokie, surrounding communities, and in the greater Chicagoland area.
While those directly targeted and detained, along with their families, have been most impacted, these operations have also caused trauma and distress among community members who have witnessed them in their neighborhoods.

CONTACTING SKOKIE POLICE: WHAT TO KNOW
|
If you’re concerned about the legitimacy of any observed law enforcement activity or have a public safety concern, dial 911. Skokie police – including a supervisor – will be dispatched to respond.
Please know that there are legal limits to what local law enforcement can do in these situations.
What Skokie Police will do:
|
-
Support public safety and work to prevent incidents from escalating
- Document observed activity – including the identities of those involved – to the extent possible
- Act as a liaison between residents and federal agents to mediate disputes
|
What Skokie Police cannot do:
|
-
Interfere with federal immigration enforcement operations
- Prevent federal agents from detaining or questioning individuals
|
The Village of Skokie upholds the Illinois TRUST Act, which prohibits local law enforcement from participating in federal immigration enforcement operations or detaining individuals based solely on citizenship or immigration status, except under a valid criminal warrant.
View the Village’s Know Your Rights page for more information and resources.

Fall Tip: Leave Leaves Alone
|
Did you know that fallen leaves can help improve soil quality and provide nutrients to landscaping and lawns? Try raking a few inches of leaves into your landscape beds this fall, or mulch leaves into your lawn.

Be Aware: Two Recent IDPH Health Notices
|
BYHEART INFANT FORMULA RECALL
|
The IDPH reports that two Illinois infants have shown symptoms consistent with botulism after consuming ByHeart powdered infant formula.
What’s being done: CDC and FDA are investigating this situation and some ByHeart formula has been recalled.
What you can do: IDPH urges parents and guardians to avoid using the recalled ByHeart infant formula until further notice
|
DANGERS OF CONSUMING RAW MILK
|
The IDPH issued a reminder about the potential hazards of drinking raw milk after at least 11 recent illnesses were linked to its consumption.
What is raw milk? Raw milk has not been pasteurized (treated with heat to kill viruses, germs and other pathogens).
