Crews remove the section of water main where a fitting cap is believed to have failed.
|
The Village and its contractor, Bolder Contractors, have completed repairs to a major water transmission main that failed in the early morning hours of Friday, February 14, causing a Village-wide water supply outage and subsequent Boil Water Order.
System water pressure has increased to typical levels throughout Skokie, and the Boil Order has been lifted. The impacted portion of transmission main has been replaced and will be placed back into service.
Initial investigation: The Village’s initial investigation into this incident suggests that a fitting cap installed in 1963 failed. The expected lifespan of this component is typically 80 to 100 years.
Next steps: The Village will initiate a comprehensive failure analysis to determine more information regarding the cause of the issue, as well as determine any mitigation measures necessary to prevent this from occurring in the future.
|
Previously scheduled water bills for a portion of Skokie were mailed and emailed on Thursday and Friday. These bills cover water usage through mid-January.
Timing: Bills are calculated and prepared days in advance and delivered in bulk to the post office for distribution. Email bills are automatically sent on the 15th of the month. Bill reminders are sent automatically by the Village's third-party vendor, InvoiceCloud, as the due date approaches.
Late penalties waived: In recognition of the disruption and hardship experienced by our residents and businesses, the Village is suspending late payment penalties for the one month for all water accounts.
