UW President Rothman visits Rock County campus
|
Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman visited the Rock County Campus on August 16 as construction began on the new nursing simulation and skills labs. Faculty will soon use the state-of-the-art spaces as they prepare the next generation of students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Rothman was joined during the visit by Chancellor Corey A. King and Dean Tricia Clasen.

Play glow-in-the-dark mini golf and enjoy music, bingo, arts and crafts and other games at Glow Night this Friday, Sept. 6, from 7-10 p.m. inside the University Center. Other activities include a Packers game party inside Ike Schaffer Commons and a showing of “The Fall Guy” inside Summers Auditorium. Free for students with their HawkCard.

Football season begins this Saturday in Whitewater
|
Immerse yourself in one of the best college football atmospheres in the country and watch the UW-Whitewater football team take on John Carroll this Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. inside Perkins Stadium. Enjoy game-day traditions, including the Warhawk Marching Band and the Cannon Guy, as you cheer on the nationally ranked Warhawks. Free for students with HawkCard.

| Fiber Connections at Crossman Gallery starts Sept. 9
|
Crossman Gallery at the Greenhill Center of the Arts presents Fiber Connections Sept. 9-26. The exhibit is open Monday-Thursday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is free for all attendees. Crossman Gallery was opened more than 50 years ago and is the primary art exhibition venue for the Department of Art and Design at UW-Whitewater. Fiber Connections is the first of five exhibits set for the fall semester.

UW-Whitewater students Blake Erwin, an international studies major from Milwaukee, and Gabe Gotcher, a political science major from Waterford, have been named student campus leaders for the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership's "Bridging the Divide" initiative for the 2024 fall semester. Thompson, pictured above, is the former Universities of Wisconsin interim president.

Kudos to L. Roger Yin, professor of information technology and supply chain management, for obtaining the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification administered by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2). The CISSP is the world's premier "gold standard" certification for cybersecurity managers and executives to demonstrate expertise across critical infrastructure industry and business sectors.

As the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games continue this week, the Warhawks' men's and women's wheelchair basketball programs were described as a national "bedrock" for the sport in an article published by The New York Times and The Athletic last week. UW-Whitewater's passion for serving students with disabilities has been a priority mission of the university for more than 50 years.

UW-Whitewater’s King/Chávez Scholars program, which welcomes incoming freshmen students from diverse backgrounds to engage in high-impact practices and experiences at the university, was highlighted in a Wisconsin Public Radio article showcasing the research findings of a UW-Madison professor.

The Chancellor’s Committee on Inclusive Excellence seeks nominations for the Regents Diversity Awards. Nominees can be individuals and/or programs, departments, units or teams who have established a successful record in fostering greater access and success for historically underrepresented, first-generation, and/or economically disadvantaged students.
