Faculty members earn prestigious honor for teaching, research |
Two UW-Whitewater faculty members are scholars in the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international education and cultural exchange program. Andrew Hurie, an assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, pictured third from right, traveled last spring to Colombia, while Stephen Levas, an associate professor of biology and geography, geology and environmental science, will work with students in Belize starting this January.

Chemistry demo set for Oct. 23

As part of National Chemistry Week and Homecoming Week, UW-Whitewater’s Department of Chemistry will host “Bedtime Dreams: The Mystical World of Chemistry — Spicy Spectacles, Magical Reactions, and Rockin’ Science Fun” on Oct. 23 from 7-8 p.m. in Upham Hall room 145. The event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday: Poetry reading at Roberta’s Art Gallery

Fulbright Scholar Karen Kovacik, a poet and translator of Polish poetry, will hold a poetry reading this Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m. in Roberta’s Art Gallery. Kovacik is a former Indiana poet laureate and is a professor emerita of English at Indiana University Indianapolis.

A total of 17 UW-Whitewater students are scholars in Launch Pad, a startup business accelerator, for the fall 2025 semester.

Kudos to Diana Shapiro, assistant professor of music, who recorded piano for two innovative volumes of Music by Black Composers through the commission of the Rachel Barton-Pine Foundation. This recording was created in partnership with the National Flute Association. It contains 15 pieces written by composers who come from North America, Brazil, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe (France and England), and the repertoire spans five centuries. Diana Shapiro »
