| Women’s Ministry Social Hour: Join the women of Christ Church for an informal, monthly gathering – the perfect way to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones. The first social hour of the program year will take place on Thursday, September 24, at 6:00 p.m. It will be hosted by parishioner Beth Crocker. To register, click here.
Mission Committee Grant Applications: This year's Mission Funding Application is now available on the parish website. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 23. If you support and/or serve a non-profit organization whose mission aligns with the mission of Christ Church, please consider submitting an application. Applications this year may be completed by the organization, but each application must be accompanied by a cover letter written by a member of Christ Church, explaining the parishioner's relationship to the organization and why the organization’s work is important and worthy of support. The Mission Committee will review applications sponsored by communicants in good standing and notify selected partners. Funding will be disbursed by year's end. Parish “Feast”: Join us on Sunday, September 27 for Feast, Christ Church’s monthly brunch, an opportunity to pause and visit with each other while sharing laughter and good food. Feast is held on fourth Sundays, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium. Registration is requested and seating is limited. Saturday Night Supper: On Saturday, October 3, Christ Church parishioners will gather at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Georgetown to prepare a hot meal for roughly 70 neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Set up begins at 4:00 p.m., dinner is served at 5:00 p.m., and clean up is completed by 6:15 p.m. Additional volunteers, especially those who are able to provide food, are needed. Sunday School Registration: Calling all children! The 2026–2027 Sunday School program year will begin on October 4. Registration is open to young people from the age of three through students in 5th grade. On the first, second, third, and fifth Sundays of each month, children attend the first portion of the 9:00 a.m. Eucharist in the Church and then are dismissed with their teachers to attend Sunday School in Linthicum Hall. Scripture Seminar: Despite a theological commitment to the Bible as the central document of our living faith and the primary source of God’s revelation, many find it difficult to read and even harder to understand. To receive and apply Scripture’s message, we need an interpretive framework and a basic familiarity with how the parts work together to create a whole. The new Christ Church Scripture Seminar will facilitate robust discussion, critical thought, personal insight, and grounded knowledge of the text of Holy Scripture. Led by the clergy of Christ Church and a team of visiting Biblical scholars, this season’s Scripture Seminar will offer a book-by-book overview of the Bible, immersing participants in its history, literary structures, narrative arc, and theological themes. Optional readings and pre-set questions will allow participants to anticipate and participate in each week’s discussion. Whether dipping a tentative toe or diving fully in, participants in this weekly series will steadily build a framework in which they can make sense of the various Biblical texts encountered in the liturgy and meaningfully engage with the Bible on their own. Fall 2026 New Members Class: Would you like to learn more about the Episcopal/Anglican tradition – its history, theology, and practices? Would you like to become more involved in the life of the parish community or become a registered member of Christ Church, Georgetown? Blessing of the Animals: The annual Blessing of the Animals will take place on Sunday, October 4, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel Garden. All parishioners and their pets, as well as family members, friends, and neighbors and their pets, are invited to this brief, informal service held on or near the feast of Francis of Assisi (October 4), patron saint of animals and ecology.
Choral Evensong to Resume: Following a long summer hiatus, Choral Evensong will resume on Sunday, October 4, at 5:00 p.m., in the Church. The liturgy will include works by Jean Berger, Stephen Caracciolo, H. Balfour Gardiner, and Herbert W. Sumsion. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Christ Church Ceilidh: Put on your dancing shoes and join us for an evening of Scottish jigs, reels, sips, and spins. This year’s Ceilidh, a parish-wide event for all ages, will take place on Saturday, October 10, in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium. Dancing will begin at 6:15 p.m., supper will be served at 7:00 p.m., and dancing will continue until 9:00 p.m. No prior experience is necessary as a band and caller will guide participants through the various dances. | Weekday Services: Public recitation of Morning Prayer (8:00 a.m.) and Evening Prayer (5:00 p.m.) takes place Monday through Saturday in the Chapel of Saint Jude. On Wednesdays, Morning Prayer is followed by a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Additional volunteers are needed to share in the leadership of these brief services. Bite-sized Bible Study: Originally intended for parents with small children, this group now welcomes all to participate in an exploration of the books of Kings. Sessions take place on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in Room 201 on the second floor of Linthicum Hall. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as music formation classes for children ages 3 through 11, is available. GriefShare: Are you mourning the loss of someone or something you love? Then join fellow parishioners of all ages and stages of life as they walk together through the process of navigating grief and move towards hope. Led by Father Andrew Stump, the GriefShare group will next meet on Tuesday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m., in the Memorial Room. For more information or to register, click here.
Going Deeper: Does your soul hunger for something more: A deeper life with God or a quieter trust? Going Deeper is an invitation to walk with others who are listening for that call. Meeting on alternating Tuesday evenings, participants in this parish group seek to expand their vision for the Christian life, engage in spiritual practices, and open themselves to the loving accountability of a committed band of fellow disciples. Not for the faint of heart, membership in the group requires a commitment to routine attendance, to transparent self-honesty, and to the hard work of following Christ in everyday life. St. Francis Institute Webinar: The St. Francis Institute, a new organizational friend of Christ Church’s St. Francis Guild, is hosting a free webinar on Tuesday, September 29, at 8 p.m. Titled “Love in Their Hearts: The Fascinating Inner Lives of Animals,” the virtual event will feature a conversation with biologist, ecologist, and writer Dr. Marc Bekoff. Joining in the discussion will be Georgetown University’s Distinguished Professor in Ethical Issues, the Reverend Christopher Steck, who will contribute a Catholic theological perspective to the topic. Thursday Morning Bible Study: This fall, parishioners of all ages are invited to participate in an exploration of Genesis, a book which lays the foundation for the biblical narrative of God and his people. Diligent students and curious walk-ins are welcome. The next meet will take place in Keith Hall, at 8:00 a.m., on October 1. Women’s Bible Study: Join Mother Tiffany Clark and a dynamic group of women as they tackle the Epistle to the Hebrews, a book which reflects back on the development of the pilgrim people of God in the Old Testament, offering a parallel interpretive commentary on what God was doing for them and, through Christ, what he is doing for us. Centering Prayer: All are invited to participate in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” For more information, contact parishioners Lesley Lilly (713-805-5889) or Molly Peacock. Next Chapter Parish Group: Intended for those who are turning the page from the scramble of career building and parenting, this parish group serves as a reorienting compass. It provides space in which to think deeply, to ask important questions, and to chart a course for the next season of life with God. Open to single people, couples, and empty-nesters, participants convene monthly for a potluck dinner. Agape Suppers: Formerly known as the Prime Timers, this parish group, which convenes monthly for dinner at Christ Church, is grounded in Christian fellowship, Georgetown hospitality, mutual learning, and the self-giving love of God. This season, each gathering will include a “behind the scenes” presentation by a representative of one of the parish’s guilds, ministries, or other leadership bodies intended to deepen participants’ understanding of both the mundane and spiritual practices that sustain the common life, and in particular, the liturgical life of the parish. The first gathering of the program year will take place on Wednesday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. It will feature a presentation by members of the Vestry. Friends of Saint Benedict: The 2026 Friends of Saint Benedict Annual Seminar will take place on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Saint David’s Church: 5150 Macomb Street, NW. It will be led by Brother Ephrem Arcement, OHC, Superior at Holy Cross Monastery, West Park, New York, who will speak about Saint Benedict’s Way of Peace. Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of Linthicum Hall, has resumed operation. The Thrift Shop is open each Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Parish Feast. Donations of unused or unwanted treasures are needed at this time: clothing, jewelry, antiques, china, glassware, household items, etc. Contributions are being accepted during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation and by appointment at the Parish Office.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
