Greetings, Volunteers!
Happy Summer! Make the most of these warm days by getting out and volunteering in your community! Below you can find a list of new and ongoing volunteer opportunities for the month of July, including the State Theatre Summer Concert Series.
To sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email and we will help answer any questions you may have. Then simply send confirmation of your volunteer hours to volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to receive credit.
Just a reminder or a notice for those who are new to volunteering, we do ask that you try different opportunities each month!

Help out at State Theatre Concerts! |
We are looking for volunteers to help with waste station monitoring at the State Theatre Concert Series this Summer! You would be welcome to stay and enjoy the concert before or after your shift!
Volunteers will take shifts to monitor compost bins, change out trash/recycling/clynk bags as needed and keep the grounds tidy. Please email Bridget with your preferred event and shift time as well as your tee shirt size.
Counting Crows: 6:00 - 8:00 pm, 8:00 - 10:00 pm
The Flaming Lips: 6:00 - 8:00 pm, 8:00 - 10:00 pm
The Head and the Heart: 6:00 - 8:00 pm, 8:00 - 10:00 pm

Volunteer at the Claws and Country Music Festival! |
Garbage to Garden will handle all of the waste for the Claws and Country Music Festival. Help us to divert as much waste as possible from the landfill, see the below shift times and email volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to sign up!

Volunteer with Cultivating Community |
Cultivating Community will be hosting monthly community volunteer days from 1-3 pm every 1st Thursday, May - October at the Boyd Street Urban Farm to help with garden and orchard projects. The garden is located at 2 Boyd Street, Portland Maine (meet by the yellow sheds at 1 pm). Volunteers can sign up for updates on their website and to be added to their volunteers list. All are welcome, no RSVP is necessary and tasks include weed pulling, mulching, planting, and harvesting. Tools, gloves, and snacks are provided. Volunteer with Maine Needs |
They strive to help individuals and families in Maine meet their basic, material needs by providing donated clothing, hygiene products, household items, and other necessities. They are looking for volunteers for the following shifts:
MONDAY-THURSDAY 9AM-12PM AND 12PM-3PM
FRIDAY & SATURDAY 9AM-12PM
TUESDAY 3PM-6PM OR 6PM-9PM

Volunteer with Mount Joy Orchard! |
Mt. Joy Orchard is a free to pick public orchard providing a creative social space while demonstrating the use of agricultural practices that promote pollinator habitat, biodiversity and the preservation of Maine's agricultural heritage.
Mt. Joy is maintained by the community, mostly during monthly work parties. Every spring they plant more plants, always with a eye towards expanding diversity. Every fall they add lots of mulch to help build up the soil and minimize weed pressure. In winter they prune the trees to maintain health, productivity and ease of harvest.
If interested in joining a work party all you have to do is show up at one of the below times, no RSVP needed! Email volunteer@garbagetogarden.org afterwards to receive credit.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR AT THE FARM! Come volunteer at Growing to Give in Brunswick. |
Growing to Give is a not for profit, MOFGA-certified organic farm growing vegetables to give to those most in need in our community. They welcome volunteers ages 3 to 93 -- individuals, families, and groups. They use no-till, climate-friendly farming practices, and volunteers help out with a variety of farm tasks, such as planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, watering, weeding, mulching, spreading compost, placing hoops and row cover, staking plants, and harvesting. Some days work is out in the fields and other days it's in the greenhouse or tunnels. No previous experience is needed.
