Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

The halfway mark of the semester brings its familiar mix of academic deadlines across campus. It also brings the kind of shared moments of fun that make W&M such a vibrant community. Last week, I had the pleasure of joining our wonderful colleagues at the Reves Center for their annual pumpkin carving contest (be sure to keep an eye on their calendar for more special events on the horizon). As you can see, I also had a hair-raising good time at Prof. Mordijck’s Fall Tack Faculty Lecture, an evening that reminded us all in the audience just how inspiring and engaging our faculty are.

And speaking of W&M fun, I hope you’ll take a moment to cheer on our colleagues during tomorrow’s 2025 Raft Debate, one of our most entertaining intellectual traditions.

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. The FY26 Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund (HEETF) application process for faculty in need of important equipment for classrooms and labs is now open through buyW&M. Please refer to specific communication from your dean for HEETF application instructions ahead of the November 10 deadline.

  2. W&M’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business will host Syracuse University’s D’Aniello Institute for the Veterans and Military Families Military Entrepreneurship Forum this Wednesday, October 29. The forum will help connect veteran-owned businesses with area resources and provide networking and educational opportunities. Registration is required.

  3. The Wellness & Resilience Empowerment Network (WREN) is currently recruiting an advisor cohort for Spring 2026. WREN is a program designed to train faculty and staff as advisors who connect W&M community members with mental health and wellness resources specific to their needs. Four monthly two-hour training sessions will be held from January to April. Please apply online.

  4. Virginia Election Day is November 4. Please note that W&M offices will be closed so that you may participate in the 2025 election.

  5. This week’s shoutout goes to W&M’s second annual Tribe Pride Relay Team who completed the Greensprings 24-Hour Endurance Race over the past weekend to raise funds for The Arc of Greater Williamsburg. Way to go, team!
