Update: Employee pay plan gets final approval |
This afternoon, the Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER) met and approved the Universities of Wisconsin employee pay plan. This is the final approval that was required for the plan to go into effect.
In July, the state Legislature approved and the governor signed the 2023-25 biennial operating budget, which includes a 4% increase for Universities of Wisconsin employees for 2023 and another 2% for 2024.
What will happen:

- For the first pay plan adjustment, all eligible employees will receive a 3.6% base wage increase, retroactively effective July 2, 2023.

Additionally, Chancellor Mark Mone will use 10% of the pay plan to recognize the outsized impact of inflation on lower-paid employees earning $26.44 per hour (approximately $55,000 per year) or less through a supplemental base pay adjustment.
- In the second pay plan adjustment, all eligible employees will receive a 2% increase, effective June 30, 2024.

Compensation adjustments will be reflected on the Jan. 11, 2024, paycheck, which will include a retroactive lump sum payment for hours worked from July 2, 2023, to Dec. 19, 2023. Employees paid on an academic-year basis will receive retroactive pay from Aug. 19, 2023.
- Eligible employees receiving a pay adjustment will receive written confirmation of their new pay rate.

Finally, Chancellor Mone will raise UWM’s minimum starting wage for full-time employees to $16 per hour to better compete with the outside marketplace for employees in key frontline support roles.
