CDC Health Advisory:
Increase in Pediatric Invasive Group A Streptococcal Infections

The CDC issued a Health Advisory on 12.22.22 to highlight the recent rise in Invasive Group A Streptococcal Infections (iGAS) infections in children, the increased seasonal risk of iGAS disease for all age groups, and the importance of early recognition, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of these diseases in children and adults.
Clinicians are asked to report invasive cases of Group A Streptococcus (including necrotizing fasciitis and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome [STSS]) within 1 working day (see below).
Laboratories are asked to submit GAS isolates from persons of any age with iGAS to the LA County Public Health Laboratory. Please indicate emm typing on the PHL test request form.
