Welcome Back!

As the Spring semester officially kicks off, we welcome you back to the lede! In this edition, we welcome our newest staff members, highlight a few clips of our collegiate newspapers, and keep you up to date with upcoming events.

We welcome Win and Hank to the lede!

SCPA has hired two USC J-School students to help with communications and member services. Win Hammond and Hank Lunn will be working with collegiate members on a number of projects including the spring Collegiate Meeting & Awards. Additionally, they're in-charge of writing and editing the lede so send them items to include!

Win is a sophomore journalism major and economics minor.
A native of Greer, Win started writing for The Daily Gamecock as a columnist before being promoted to assistant opinion editor and now he's reporting on university politics. His goal is to become an investigative reporter in politics or business for a daily newspaper. In his free time, Win likes to read and find the way to pull a perfect espresso shot. You can reach him at win@scpress.org.

Hank is a junior advertising major and English minor.
A native of Hartsville, she has a background in ad sales, working as a member of Garnet Media Group's ad sales team. Her goal is to become a copywriter or work in art direction.
In her free time, Hank enjoys making earrings and walking her dog, Mac Mac, on the West Columbia Riverwalk. You can reach her at hank@scpress.org.

Breaking away from our third-person introductions, we look forward to connecting with everyone in this upcoming Spring semester!

Megan Wallace

School: Coastal Carolina University

Newspaper: The Chanticleer
Title: Editor-in-chief

Major: Communications

What made you decide to start working for The Chanticleer?
The previous editor, Shelbi is who influenced me to join the newspaper. We had classes together since freshman year, and she kept telling me I should join the newspaper.

It wasn't until the beginning of my junior year when I attended a meeting and really enjoyed it. By the end of my junior year I was the Editor-in-Chief so I'm glad Shelbi continued to push me to join.

What do you like best about your new organization?

What I like best about The Chanticleer is the team work and collaboration that goes into the whole thing. We are a machine and without one part or person we may not be able to function at all. Especially this year with the move from bi-weekly publications from weekly, we need every single person to work cohesively.

What do you like best about your campus?

I like how involved everyone is on campus, the smaller size of our campus makes it easier to make connections with people and connections are key when it comes to reporting.

What's your favorite thing you've written about so far?

My favorite story that I've written so far was last year during Women's History Month. I wrote an article comparing salaries and how the top 13 highest paid employees at Coastal are men. I thought it was a very important story and I was proud to be able to write that during Women's History Month for the double truck.
