Learn More About Rock Steady Boxing Rock Steady Boxing is a unique non-contact boxing program based on training used by boxing pros and adapted to people with Parkinsonâs disease. Our Rock Steady Boxing classes are held on Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 11:30am-2:15pm.Â
If youâve been in the club during one of our Rock Steady Boxing classes, youâve most likely noticed the upbeat music coming from the functional training area. There is a reason why the music has a driving beat and is playing loud.Â
Many people with Parkinsonâs disease have walking or gait problems. These issues can range from difficulty starting, suddenly stopping or freezing and festination. These symptoms are frustrating, unsafe and can lead to falls. To help combat these issues we can use music, called rhythmic auditory stimulation.Â
Music stimulates many brain areas and processesâŚ.our thinking, memory, feeling, moving and many others. It does this whether the brain has a neurological disease or not. When there is a disease, music can bypass faulty pathways to lesson symptoms.Â
Music is a powerful, universal tool. Music can move us emotionally. And if it can help to relieve some of the devastating symptoms of Parkinsonâs, let's crank it up!

Member of the Month
Kim SmithÂ
Congratulations to our February Member of the Month, Kim! Kim is a regular in our morning Group X classes, from strength to spin. She brings a positive and energetic presence each and every time that she comes to the gym. Itâs always great to see Kim walk through the doors!
Kim joined the club back in 2006 when it first opened. She loves the instructors and staff. Her favorite workouts are yoga, spin and light weight training. Most of all, she enjoys the friendships of the other members who she works out with and occasionally meets up with for coffee or lunch. As a retired career public health nurse, mother of two adult sons, grandmother of three, she also enjoys cooking, reading, traveling with her husband and volunteering. âBeing retired has helped me finally reach that goal of incorporating 5 to 6 days a week of exercise and yoga in a relaxed routine,â she says. Kim is currently working toward keeping her mind sharp, staying healthy and keeping problems like osteoporosis and bone brittleness at bay. She is especially inspired and motivated to live actively to continue and stay engaged in the lives of her three energetic grandchildren. âAs a nurse, I know there are so many illnesses that can be prevented by keeping fit in body and mind with healthy nutrition. My motto is never give up and keep trying to be the best at any age.â We love that motto!
