Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
A university's curriculum reflects its commitments: what we believe students should know, the questions they should consider, and the judgment and wisdom we hope they will develop. Our new Core Curriculum brings those commitments together in a shared educational foundation for every Longhorn.
In his State of the University address, President Davis emphasized putting students at the center of our academic mission and announced the establishment of University College to steward the new Core. Today, we are pleased to announce three faculty committees that will help guide this work across the Core’s academic pillars: arts and humanities, social sciences, and STEM.
These committees bring together excellent, dedicated faculty from across disciplines to review courses in their respective areas:
  • Arts & Humanities Committee
Great Questions of Human Life; Western Civilization; U.S. History; Masterworks of Literature; and Culture and the Arts
  • Social Sciences Committee
Principles of American Politics; World Politics and Cultures; and Foundations of Social Science
  • STEM Committee
Great Ideas in Science; Computer Science and AI; Natural Science and Engineering; and Math, Statistics, and Data Science
The work of the faculty committees will help give students a coherent and rigorous foundation across these fields, drawing on the knowledge and teaching experience of our faculty. You can view each committee’s membership through the links above.
As announced last week, University College will begin in January 2027. The college will support faculty collaboration, maintain the Core’s academic standards, and provide continuity as the curriculum develops. Faculty across our colleges and schools will continue to teach in the Core and have abundant opportunities to propose new or adapted courses.
Faculty expertise has shaped the new Core from the beginning, and faculty guidance remains essential as we move from its design to the development and implementation of courses. We are grateful to our committee members for enthusiastically accepting this responsibility and for contributing their time and judgment to an undertaking that serves the entire University.
Thank you to all the faculty, staff, and students who are helping to strengthen undergraduate education at UT. Together, we will give every Longhorn a foundation for continued learning, thoughtful citizenship, and a life of purpose.
Sincerely,
William Inboden, Ph.D.
