February marks the celebration of Black History Month at OHIO, a time to honor the remarkable contributions of the Black community throughout American history and recognize the resilience and strength shown in the face of discrimination. Encourage your student to attend events like the 50th Anniversary Dinner Honoring Rev. Dr. Francine Childs, the Black Student Cultural Programming Board Sibs Weekend Concert, or part of the Heroes in Color series at the Athena Cinema. These events offer meaningful ways to engage, learn, and celebrate together.
I hope to see many of you on campus soon for Sibs Weekend, February 7-9! Catch an OHIO hockey game, attend Apollo Night, have glow-in-the-dark fun at GLOHIO, or make buttons in Alden Library. We can't wait to host our Bobcat families, and maybe even some future Bobcats too.
Read on for other upcoming events, other opportunities and updates, and ways for students to stay energized this winter. As always, reach out if I can be of support.

How to THRiVE during this cold weather |
As we settle into winter in Athens, there are so many ways to stay active and engaged, both indoors and outdoors. Your student can take a group fitness class, join a Winter Wildlife Hike on Feb. 1, get involved with a student org, or catch a movie at the Athena Cinema uptown. Taking care of yourself can also look like simply resting and recharging. Encourage your student to do whatever works for them this winter!

Your student could star in an OHIO ad or video |
OHIO’s University Communications and Marketing team is holding open screen tests/casting call on Thursday, February 6 in Baker 231. Students can drop in anytime from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to share a little about themselves and be considered for future OHIO marketing photo, video and social needs. The 5-15 minute process will include completion of a brief intake form, some quick, casual portraits, and being asked a few easy questions about their OHIO student experience on video.

Students are required to maintain an active health insurance policy. The University offers Student Health Insurance with a comprehensive health policy and optional dental and vision. If students have been charged for insurance for Spring 2025 and they have an existing insurance policy that meets the University waiver requirements, they should complete a waiver application by January 31 to remove the charge for the remainder of the academic year. Students voluntarily enrolling in the Spring/Summer coverage period must submit their enrollment form by January 31, 2025.

They can look for the C.A.T.S signage in their classroom.
